Betrothy
From relationship to happily ever after. Betrothy is a community, with the tools and resources, that stands beside people through the whole journey of love: growing closer, getting engaged, celebrating the wedding, and the years of marriage after it. "This could be your love story."
The Music Studio, one of Betrothy's creative tools, turns a couple's own story into a custom, sung song.
About this project
Betrothy is a community, with the tools and resources, for people across every stage from relationship to engagement, to marriage, and beyond. Most tools in this space are transactional and stop after finding a match or the wedding. Betrothy is built to stay useful for the whole journey, pairing a community with practical tools for each stage.
The community is the core. Every wedding brings in roughly a hundred friends and family, and many of them become the next couples, guests, and supporters, so the network gives people social support that used to come with getting married. It runs on the web and as a native iOS app.
The Music Studio pictured above is one of the creative tools that community plugs into. A couple tells it about their story, the mood, and the people, and it writes the lyrics and produces a custom sung song they can play, share, and make their own, complete with cover art, whether that is a first-dance ballad, an upbeat reception number, or a love song for a partner. It is one example of the wider idea: take a part of a wedding that usually costs money and effort, and make it something a couple can do themselves.
Why we built Betrothy
Fewer people are reaching marriage. In 2021, 25% of 40-year-olds in the United States had never been married, a record high, up from 6% in 1980, according to the Pew Research Center. Married couples now head fewer than half of all US households, close to the lowest share since the Census Bureau began tracking it (USAFacts, Census data).
At the same time, dating apps are wearing people out. In a Pew Research Center survey, 46% of online daters said their overall experience was negative, and most women reported feeling overwhelmed by the volume of messages. Dating fatigue, the exhaustion that comes with constant swiping, is now common.
AI is now making it worse. Norton's 2026 Artificial Intimacy report found that nearly half of US online daters have been targeted by a dating scam, and 61% have been contacted by someone impersonating a celebrity or public figure, as AI-generated photos, voices, and chatbots spread across the apps and make it harder to tell who is real.
Betrothy's approach is to use the people already around each couple rather than another app for meeting strangers. A wedding brings in about a hundred friends and family, and that network can support a couple and introduce other people through a community-based matchmaker. We think using the network of couples this way is a practical response to the decline in marriage and the fatigue of online dating.
I work on Betrothy as an AI product engineer, building the Music Studio and the AI tooling behind it, along with the social graph that ties couples, guests, planners, and vendors into one community.
